Saturday, December
17th, 6pm The Dine Out meets at Petrow’s Restaurant 5914 Center Street, Omaha
(60th & Center). This is a rerun restaurant, but one of my
favorites. We were last there on a Dine Out in May, 2006. I picked it for
December because it’s inexpensive and fun. Petrow’s business originated in 1902
as the Fremont Candy Company (in Fremont). Petrow’s opened its first diner in
Omaha in the 1920’s and has been at its current location since the early
1950’s. Petrow’s is one of the restaurants where Warren Buffett and Bill Gates
dine when Gates visits Omaha. Petrow’s offers traditional “diner” food. The
menu has a few appetizers, some soups and salads, and an assortment of
traditional sandwiches and really, really good burgers. Specialty sandwiches
include a tuna melt, smoked turkey melt, Reuben, and the Nebraska favorite, the
pork tenderloin. The menu also offers a full array of chicken sandwiches and
burgers. Petrow’s offers dinners accompanied by a vegetable, Italian bread,
choice of soup or salad and choice of potato. Choice of coffee or tea is also
included. Dinner entrées include a New York strip, Sirloin Steak, and, of
course, chicken fried steak. Other dinners include a shrimp or chicken basket,
poached cod, fried chicken, roast beef, and even liver and onions. The diner
features home-made ice cream and an old fashioned soda fountain offering
shakes, malts, soda, floats, freezes, and a variety of specialty sundaes
including the “Hot Maple” sundae of black walnut ice cream topped with hot
maple syrup. They also have excellent home style pies. Salads and soups start
at $4.99; a dinner-size chef’s salad is only $6.99. The most expensive dinner
is $14.99. If we have a group of 10 or more, the gratuity will be added into
the check. Please RSVP to Diana Vogt by noon, December 17th. You can call
me at 402-981-4012 or email me at fidgetydjv@gmail.com.
Tuesday, December 20th, 6pm, NWIM Ex-Comm Meeting
at
Starbuck's,
8734
Pacific Street in the Countryside Village shopping center. Dave will
buy coffee and a yummy Starbucks snack for anyone who visits!
